Description:
Nitrogen fertilizer revolutionized agriculture, but today's food production systems lose far more nitrogen to the environment than they deliver to our plates — driving climate change, water contamination, and air pollution along the way.
Nitrogen2.0 is a new vision for transforming this linear, high-loss system into one that is circular, targeted, and efficient, with the goal of cutting nitrogen pollution by half while sustaining global food productivity. Developed by an interdisciplinary team of leading scientists, the initiative centers on three synergistic strategies: novel livestock feed sources that reduce dependence on fertilized crops, crop breeding for improved nitrogen efficiency, and better manure capture and recycling to recouple animal and crop systems.
In this session, we will explore what a more sustainable nitrogen future could look like — and the science and investment needed to get there.
