Governance Research Fellow - Call for Applicants
The Governance Working Group invites applications for a Research Fellow position to join its leadership team and contribute to advancing global nitrogen governance.
The iN-Net Governance Working Group comprises more than 30 scholars and professionals from academia, non-profit organizations, the private sector, and government. Over the past year, the group has assessed governance approaches, identified institutional gaps, and developed pathways for transformative change. The Research Fellow will play a central role in supporting and expanding these initiatives.
Position Overview
The appointed Research Fellow will join the current leadership team and collaborate closely with William San Martín (Working Group Lead) and Kelly Perry (Current Research Fellow). The position is anticipated to commence as soon as possible and will continue through the end of 2027. The Research Fellow will receive an honorarium of $1,000 per year for each year of active service.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Research Fellow will contribute to the development and coordination of key initiatives within the Governance Working Group. Responsibilities include:
Assisting with the strategic coordination and daily operations of the Working Group
Contributing to the development of the group’s vision, mission, and priority areas
Organizing and facilitating discussions to strengthen collaboration across networks
Supporting the production of collaborative outputs, including peer-reviewed publications and public-facing content such as blogs for the iN-Net website
Assisting in the preparation of session proposals for major events, including the iN-Net Annual Workshop and the International Nitrogen Conference
Engaging with cross-sector and cross-regional stakeholders to promote governance discussions
Coordinating with other iN-Net Working Groups and contributing to broader network initiatives
Participating in regular virtual meetings and annual in-person gatherings
Qualifications
We encourage applications from individuals with experience or interest in:
Environmental governance and sustainability
International policy processes and science–policy interfaces
Stakeholder engagement and multi-actor collaboration
Interdisciplinary research on nitrogen, food systems, climate, or related fields
Early-career researchers and practitioners with strong organizational, collaborative, and communication skills are particularly encouraged to apply.
